The topic of this episode of Yates in Your Face is one leaders don’t often talk about.

As leaders, society makes us think we need to be impervious. We are supposed to be able to spot the trip wires that everyone else gets hung up on and alter our pathway. And, we are supposed to be blind to the hecklers, and the skeptics.

That pressure alone is enough to make you want to take a break..to get away from it all.

In today’s video, I’m asking leaders to dig deep and REJECT the impulse to get away.

Now, is not the time to turn back or run away. Yes, the resistance is palpable…and that’s often the greatest indicator that breakthrough is just around the corner.

TRANSCRIPT:

So I’m sharing something I learned as a business owner and I think I’m doing a decent job. But then I remember and a cold chill runs down my spine. There are people who hate me, who want me to fail.

They’ll be waiting for me online where I’m an easy target. I feel like the airline commercial, “Wanna Get away?” No matter how many good days I have, it still sneaks up on me.

Ever been there? Even if everyone else seems to have moved on, you ask yourself if anything you’re doing really matters.

What if you believe you’re better off dead? What if you just wanna get away?

The greatest temptation for any leader is to question their ability to lead. Sometimes, you just want to get away!

So you’ve failed and there’s nothing you can do about it now. Does it define you? Does it short circuit your God-given potential? Are you destined to be trapped in that failure? Does it become your identity?

Now that you’ve failed, are you less qualified to lead or are you more qualified? Is your future trapped in the past?

You will have skeptics. There will be detractors. If you’re waiting for approval and cheerleaders, you’ll be waiting a long time. The validation you’re hoping for will fail you. It will always fail you.

Your future, my future is not in the past (Thank you, God) and it’s not in the hands of others.

If leadership only goes with the flow, it’s not leadership. If there is no resistance to your calling, there is no calling.

I can’t change my past and neither can you. All we have is the WILL to become who we were created to be. Reject the impulse to get away. You’re not dead. Everything that has happened is preparing you for Breakthrough.
